Often forgotten but very important….. The positioning and height of your TV can have a significant impact on your viewing pleasure and yet a surprising number of people give it little thought. The positioning of your TV can also have health implications but very little advice and guidance is provided in general. Today we aim to change this by sharing some of our top tips.
Room Positioning
TVs are used throughout the home and these days most home owners have at least 3 different TV sets. This often ranges from the kitchen to the bedroom and each has its own unique set of properties. For example in the kitchen you would look to mount your TV away from hot areas or areas of steam build up.
The Kitchen
The main aim here is to keep the screen away from areas that get hot, so don’t place it near the kettle or your kitchen hobs. Most people put there’s on the wall next to a table or just above a clear work surface. With some kitchens of course it’s not even a consideration as they are built into the units themselves.
The Bedroom
Size is everything here. Big TVs often look out of place in a bedroom so it’s about finding the right balance. In terms of looks, mounting your screen above a small chest of draws, usually works well. Flexible, extending arm mounts are also a good option in the bedroom so you get a big flexibility in terms of viewing while hiding those unsightly wires when needed. Angles are very important so take your time here.
The Front Room
People often try to achieve a certain look at the expense of viewing comfort. For example many people put their TVs above the fire place. This is often too high and causes discomfort in the neck. Others place theirs in the corner but these can be difficult to mount. While these approaches can both work well it is often best to use a flat wide wall and mount it to this. You then have plenty of space and can achieve just the right angles. You can also place your furniture around the TV.
Guidelines for Mounting Your TV
It’s not just about positioning within a room but also how high you place your screen. There are a number of things you should take in to consideration when placing a mount.
Area around the TV
It is generally recommended that you leave around six inches of space around each side of the TV. This helps to avoid obstructions and improves the overall look of your screen.
Height and Angle
These must work together to provide the best viewing experience. One can’t be at the expense of the other. Most people like to have their TV at eye level. This is a good school of thought as it provides a natural line for your eyes. Others like to have their TVs placed higher up. If you have your TV higher up then you will need to adjust the screen angle. This is very important.
As you can see there are many options but it is important to not be afraid of testing new angles. If you are not completed satisfied move it. Remember TVs are usually used for two years or more.
